JBC: What inclines you towards street walls or urban spaces as your most widely-used canvas?

FD: The life of a studio artist can be a lonely

one and I really don’t think I could function

in that situation. Getting out and about and

painting street murals is all about interaction: with the environment, the wall/space and the people both local and passers-by. It’s what I like the most about my life now: painting, traveling and interacting with people from all over the world. 

JBC: Since your work focuses on aesthetics rather than social or political themes, do the

‘masked’ women depicted on many of your

pieces symbolize anything other than beauty?

FD: One of the reasons I don’t talk about my work too much is because I want it to speak for itself. When you explain things you remove the mystery of it and what would be the point of that? [This said], I wanted to steer away from objectifying my subjects as is too often the case these days through other mediums, and instead create strong,
