The Porsche 918 Spyder: Plug-in Hybrid Supercar Sets a Nürburgring Record

and Timo Kluck, a Porsche test driver. All three drivers surpassed the old track record on each of their runs. The honor of setting the new track record belongs to Marc Lieb, who drove an average of 111.5 mph during his fastest lap. Even more impressive, Lieb's record run was the first one of the day. Even though one of the supercars wore

Martini Racing livery and the other did not, they were mechanically the same. For the Porsche 918 Spyder, total system output measures an impressive 887 horsepower and 944 lb.-ft. of torque. The German automaker claims a top speed of 213 mph and an all-electric top speed of 93 mph. The company also states the car will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. also earned an A+ efficiency rating in both Germany and Switzerland. For the record lap, Porsche used the same stock Michelin tires buyers receive on their vehicle. Both cars were equipped with the optional Weissach package, which includes a total weight reduction of about ninety pounds.
